Voiceglue release: open source VXML for Asterisk

Posted on Thursday 2 August 2007

Doug and I have been hacking software for a long time. I think the first serious program we wrote together was a compiler for CS412. Even then, Doug did the hard parts (which had to do with call by name semantics, as I recall).

It’s unfair to Doug to say that we’re releasing Voiceglue, because Doug really has been the sole author. But he has enjoyed the support of Ampersand, and I’ve been involved in helping the trajectory of the project, it’s goals, getting the first client to use it, and perhaps even providing a bit of input into the architecture.

So, personal disclaimer aside, we’ve released VoiceGlue! From the website:

Our VoiceGlue logo screen shotoverall goal is to provide a full-featured integration of Asterisk and OpenVXI including as many features as possible while conforming to the VoiceXML standard.

Release announcement here, feature set here, and you can download your own copy here.

The project is released under GPL. About 25 years after that compiler class, we’re providing something back to the open source community. It feels good.

Doug is excellent and VoiceGlue is very cool and it really works! I have been waiting for this for quite some time and I am very happy that someone has actually done it!
