Pulveria

Posted on Thursday 7 September 2006

Jeff gave the world a first peek of Pulveria yesterday, and mentioned that a limited number of people will be able to attend his VON keynote from cyberspace in Second Life.
I’ve had a lot of interest from people that picked up on my previous post about attending Berkman’s Beyond Broadcast session as an avatar, and wound up having some quite extensive discussions on this topic (leading me to buy a house in SL but that’s another story).

Well, here’s your chance to experience it all yourself. Gen up a SL avatar, take an hour to figure out to drive it, contact Hank Hoodoo to get an invite (a bit more information here), and then you too could experience the odd but enjoyable sensation of waving to a real world audience through the “membrane”, while they are waving at you. Cyberspace meets realspace. This is pretty cutting edge (although people have been living in SL for years).

I should also say that I’ve been working with Jeff as a special advisor on the Pulveria project. This whole space is heading in a very interesting direction, and it’s fascinating to engage in it.

If you wind up going online to SL, shoot me your avatar name and let’s meet online.

[…] I wrote last week about Jeff Pulver’s pilot use of Second Life during this Fall’s VON conference. Jeff built this island over the summer, designing it be a place that could be used for everything from large scale presentations to smaller interactive meetings. This island itself is just beautiful, and the conference center sits on the sea and is built into the cliff and mountains in a breathtaking fashion. […]
