Earlier this Spring, I reported on an excellent one-day meeting in Washington, DC called Peripheral Visionaries. The idea was to bring together technologists and visionaries with regulators and policy people, and to get them exchanging ideas.
The meeting was so successful that there was a clamor inside the beltway to repeat it, and the follow-up is on Nov 10th at the Washington Plaza Hotel. I’ve been asked to moderate a panel of bloggers, and we have been given a prime spot from 10:15 to 11:20 AM.
If you’re interested in seeing the intersection where technology vision meets policy, this is a great place to participate. There are some fantastic people coming, including Jonathan Askin and Jeff Pulver, who are sponsoring the event, and a whole group of excellent speakers. Some personal people-not-to-miss are friend Chris Libertelli from Skype, Susan Crawford from Cardoza Law School, and Mark Spencer of Asterisk fame (I would be the last person to tease Mark given that most phone calls I make go through my personal asterisk server, but I must say it is interesting watching the language mismatch when he is speaking with button-down Brooks-Brothers-attired politicians — you can see that quizzical look on their faces, they know it’s English being spoken but only every third word comes through
My panel consists of Om Malik, Andy Abramson, David Isenberg, Dave Burstein, and Randolph May (all links to their respective blogs). I’ve been having some fascinating discussions with them as we plan our session.
To cap the day off, Jeff has arranged for the Herding Cats to come play DC after the reception — these guys are a great club band and are guaranteed to end the night on a high note.
Hope to see you in Washington. Full details including registration are here.
